The goal of Sul Divano is to spread its own musical production as well as to interpret prestigious authors related to the group´s work, such as the North American composer Frank Zappa . Going through different periods of his music, the band intends to illustrate the nature of his work, by taking parts of his original arrangements in some pieces, and at times re-arranging others for the sake of developing of the group. As it is well known, Zappa´s music is distinguished by its rhythmical and harmonic richness. Sul Divano has mastered the ability to capture and re-create the essence of his music. Likewise, Sul Divano has duly thought of another composer whose reputation can be paralleled to that of Zappa, that is the case of Astor Piazzolla. Here the band's electrical sonority offers a new dimension to his music. |

Sul
Divano, the tRue Story
The Origins [Pre- Sul Divano period]
In 1995 Tony Moliterni
( Guitar ) , Jorge Dominguez (drums) and Andres Figueroa (bass) got together
to give shape to a trio who, in the beginning, did not have in mind creating
their own music but assisting with the mishaps of an a aspiring " Jazz
singer " (whose identity won´t be revealed for obvius reasons)
. Without realizing and figuring out that the " singer " would
not last long, Moliterni and Co, started exploring the rock arena, trying
to find a route for this trio, still with no name.
The academic background of Moliterni added to that of Figueroa, served as
a springboard to discover the potential of the group . The guitar player
applied his knowledge of classical and contemporary music and started to
compose, not actually thinking of an ensamble, but rather of a rock band
which could not only perform the grooves and harmonies, but also fix all
the tangled and damned arrangements.
In that way, Moliterni, without being aware at the time, would go through
pathways, where he and his band would reassure the idea that :
"Rock is not just a bunch of notes that conform the vertices of a cube."

Sul DivANO: tRade marK
For the following performances that
took place from 96 to 99, the group introduced to their repertoire compositions
of Astor Piazzolla . Those pieces were adapted and re-arranged by Moliterni
for a band of electrical instruments, and in this way the electrical sonority
of Sul Divano added a new dimension to their muisic.
As the result of the band´s performance of the Frank Zappa´s
music pieces, Sul Divano was called in 1996 for an event in his honor. From
this presentation onwards, the band appeared on local radio stations such
as Rock & Pop, and started to sound in the ears of prestigious specialized
journalist like Alfredo Rosso and Eduardo de la Puente among others.
The band was also summoned for the subsequent shows to play tribute to Zappa:
Two in 98 and one in 99. In the later one the group counted with the presence
of Arthur Barrow (Bass, Keyboard player and Rehearsal director of Zappa
between 1978 and 1984) Between 1997 and 1999, a hoard of musicians
passed through the band, all of them contributing with their knowledge and
suggestions. Strikingly enough, during that time . the artistic and musical
growth was strengthened due to the musical openness and the cool relationship
among its members. Thanks to that , Sul Divano enjoyed great moments like
when Ricardo Mollo wanted to participate in of the shows or when Steve Vai
and Mike Keneally went to see one show, accepting the invitation to go up
the stage.
"Nothing
is static, Everything is movement."

As for now,
their make up and their interest are crammed with points of interest. To begin
with . the repertoire of the band is mostly devoted to music pieces of Frank
Zappa, plus some touches of Astor Piazzolla , OK , the guys have good taste
"
" Another instance of lack traditionalism , particularity or just a mad
thing is the conformation of the band
"
" So as to cram it all they declare that their moral leader is no one
else but Divine Brown ( the young lady that was arrested with actor Hugh Grant
while he was performing a conduct treatment on her.
By Sebastian Feijoo, Madhouse Vol 76. April 1997
"
At the end of the Saturday show ( 3/22 ) Mike Keneally and Steve
Vai leant that there was an Argentine band called Sul Divano, devoted to playing
exclusively pieces of Frank Zappa and Astor Piazzolla . and that very same
night they were giving a show at the bar La Petrolera , in Recoleta. Before
the surprised look of the audience, they booth walked into the place and enjoyed
the second part of the show. For the bis, Mike Keneally accepted Sul Divano´s
invitation to go up the stage to join in , playing " King Kong "
and improvising a wonderful guitar solo
